Amália was born in Cascais (Portugal). In 1975 her family went to Brazil, and she grew up listening to Tom Jobim, Vinícius de Moraes, Paulinho da Viola, Elis Regina, João Gilberto,...
In 1991 she moved to Belgium where she started singing in public and in 2003 Amália relocated to Albania and started performing in Tirana in various Jazz Clubs.

Amália lives now in Zagreb since December 2009 where she sings with the quintet "The Jazzancholics" and the Bossa Nova trio "Outras Bossas".
On 31 May 2010 Amália released her first album with the label Fo(u)r edition (http://www.four-edition.com/site/2010/05/21/amalia-baraona-mulheres/). The release of her first CD "Mulheres" (which means "Women", in her native Portuguese), features 10 songs written about women and for women, by Brazilian composers Chico Buarque, António Carlos Jobim, Dorival Caymmi, and Joyce and Ana Terra. It was recorded in April this year in Bari with backing musicians Bruno Montrone (piano and arrangements), Dário Di Lecce (double bass), Fábio Delle Foglie (drums), Guido Di Leone (guitar) and Francesco Lomangino (flute).
